Streeters: Iola Old Car Show in July

Joe Salzburg
January 22, 2008

Hello Streeters...

Well it may seem that I am getting too far ahead of myself here regarding the 2008 Iola Old Car Show, particularly since it is in July; But really I am not.

Reason being is that Motel/Hotel Reservations MUST be nailed down by no later than March. Otherwise finding a group of rooms as well as getting a good lodging rate will be difficult at best.

Now the Iola Old Car Show is in Iola, WI. (Not too far from the Wisconsin Rapids and Stevens Point). We will be trying to stay in the Wisconsin Rapids.

The show is the SECOND Weekend in July EVERY YEAR, and has been since the beginning in 1972.

The show runs officially, from Friday, July 11th thru Sunday, July 13th this year. It unOfficially opens on the Wednesday during that week for the Swap, but the ENTIRE show runs from Friday to Sunday.

Now we DRIVE our show cars up there (About a 200 mile drive to the Rapids, where we'll lodge) on Friday morning. We will leave from the show on Sunday afternoon and head for home.

We typically attend the show on Saturday and Sunday. By entering your car, you have the BEST parking you can get to have access to everything within the show. Iola showgrounds are well over 300 acres. About 80 acres of it is JUST swap meet, another 70 is the Car Corral and Classic Car Auction Tent, and the remaining acres consist of show campgrounds and Car Show area split up by Blue Ribbon cars, Feature Cars and Pre-War & Post-War. Well over 15,000 people attend this show every year and for good reason... There is a LOT to see and do, and for that matter buy... Depending what you are looking for. Iola has the LARGEST Swap Meet in the Midwest (Yes, larger than Jefferson too). You will also see cars of nearly every make and model running from the 1900's to 1975, which incidentally is the cutoff date for the year of cars that can be in the show (Up to 1975).

Now besides the show, the group going will be spending time together going out for dinner, maybe going out to the local racetrack (Golden Sands Speedway), Casino, or other things. All of it being a great time.

I have been attending this show since the late 1980's and have been participating with my cars since 1992 (Which is far more fun!).

If you are interested in attending, I HIGHLY recommend driving your Pride and Joy up there. It really makes it that much more fun, I cannot say it enough. Ken has always been our on road mechanic and will be there again for his 14th year. This will be my 19th! And I believe Craig Sincora's 11th year. (Pardon me if I am a year or so off guys).

To Sum up, we will be driving our cars up there, entering them in the show and staying TWO nights (Friday and Saturday night). We will try to find prices of $60 - 80. rooms for everyone. We do normally put two to a room, so you may be able to room with someone and split the cost. My Dad and I do that every year. Cost to enter the show is $15.00 for the weekend. If you have a Convertible or a Rumbleseat, you will get in FREE! as those are the Featured type of vehicles this year.

Those that are confirmed are:

-Joe Salzburg (1972 El Camino)
-Jim Salzburg (1968 Camaro)
-Craig Sincora (1967 Grand Prix)
-Ken Kellner (1968 Mustang)

Possibles:

-Kelsey Kellner (Rides with Ken)
-Matt Sincora (Rides with Craig or Brian)
-Brian Sincora (1967 Mustang)

Please let me know if you are interested and would like to go within the next couple weeks so that we can start getting rooms reserved. We'd love to have you join us and if you have never been to Iola, I think you'll be in for a real treat!

You can as always ask me more about it ifinterested... Or...
